Ladies, looking beautiful is no easy feat and the endless selection of beauty products doesn’t necessarily make it any easier. How do you know which cosmetic or makeup product is right for you?
For starters, simply make peace with the fact that beauty can be costly and be prepared to fork out a pretty fortune. This is not to say you shouldn’t shop around to find the best buys and promotional offers.
Opt for cosmetics that match and complement your skin tone and type. Go for colours that enhance your natural glow and blend in with the colour of your hair, eyes and skin.
This means choosing a lighter foundation shade for fair skin and using products for your specific skin type. Educate yourself on knowing what goes into the products you are using and safeguard the health of your skin to prevent any skin allergies you may be prone to.
The best way to find out which products work best for you is to “test and try”. Glossybox offers just the answer to those who delight in the thrill of trying new beauty products.
A monthly subscription of R130 to Glossybox gets you four to five trial luxury beauty products of high-end brands to review in the comfort of your own home. Order your limited edition Stuttafords Glossybox now. For more information: http://www.glossybox.co.za/
Look of the Day
Whether it’s stockings, tights or leggings – no winter wardrobe should be without these key items. Of course how you wear them will define your fashion finesse or render you an overnight fashion mess.
So what’s the difference between this legwear? Sheer nylon stockings cover the foot and can be worn up to the knee or waist. Go for stockings in classic black or natural skin tones. Stockings are thinner than tights or legging and are ideally worn with a knee length skirt or dress.
Tights, in comparison to stockings, are slightly thicker nylon, cotton or lycra threads. Similarly they cover the foot and extend to the waist. Opt for opaque colours and cheeky prints and pair with shorts, mini dresses and skirts.
Add a pair of ankle or high boots and you have a look that’s bang on trend and comfortable too.
Leggings are defined as footless and worn down to the ankle, like pants, or just below the knee. Stay away from leggings that sit on or above the knee, as these will make your legs appear shorter.
Leggings come in a variety of fabrics and textures so don’t be shy to experiment with fun colours and patterns. Leggings look best when paired with ballet pumps and an oversized jumper or tunic. Wearing leggings could make a flabby tum or bulge more apparent so be mindful to cover up with a longer top if need be.
We thought Ntombentle Sithole’s “tights and boots” pairing was ideal for a day at Sandton City. We spotted her wearing high-rise riding tights (R599), crop jacket (R899) and top (R400) all from Forever New and neatly accessorized with a pair of brown boots.

CD review – Goldfish: Perceptions of Pacha
My best thing about local dance duo Goldfish is how they transcend the usual musical boundaries – it seems everyone, whether house fanatics, rockers, pop fans or hip hop heads can agree on one thing – that Goldfish rock.
I played their first album ‘Caught In The Loop’ until I could play it no more, so I was pretty stoked when they released the follow up. In proof of how far they have come since their debut, their new one is released after a residency at influential international dance label Pacha, hence the name.
The tracks are already all over the radio and on ads, and you will probably recognise them even if you don’t know it. ‘Cruising Through’ and ‘Fort Knox’ are the ones you will have heard. My personal favourites are the beautiful, chilled Afro-influenced opener, ‘Sold My Soul,’ and the bouncy Swing of track 5, ‘Wet Welly’. Fans of their sound will know what to expect – there are no surprises here, just more of their familiar and funky formula – house meets jazz with a dash of hip hop and downtempo. What’s not to like?

Most Wanted
There is nothing like tempting, voluptuous lips to add to your seductive appeal this winter. We pay luscious lip service to trending shades and how to get your pout just right:
High drama
Dramatic bolds and neutral nudes are the latest in lip colour styling; think a glossy deep purple for high-shine glamour. This racy colour works well with subdued and soft colouring to the cheeks and eyelids. And remember a well-defined brow, some lash darkening mascara and a tinted moisturiser to set your skin aglow for a perfect look.
Nude for effect
Prevent nude colour lips from looking washed out by keeping the rest of your makeup soft and natural. Choose a matte finish and go easy on the lip liner. Eye shadow in skin-tone matching shades of light pink, coral, beige, peach or mocha are best. Stay away from shimmery blue, purple and green. Dust your skin with a light bronzer and end off with a pink tinted blush on the cheeks for touch of radiance.
Also choose a wide variety of pink shades in matte, gloss or traditional wear while keeping your cheek colour to a minimum, skin dusted with a soft bronzer and charcoal eyes for an elegant evening look.
If it’s red lips you’re after, be sure to choose a shade and texture that best suits you. For that red carpet celebrity look, go for dramatic eyes and lightly rouged cheeks for a healthy looking glow.
We liked Rimmel’s lasting finish lipstick from the Kate Moss Collection. Choose from eight shades, all from R70. Or try Clinique’s Chubby Stick Moisture Lip Colour at R205. Both available from Edgars .
