Ladies, looking beautiful is no easy feat and the endless selection of beauty products doesn’t necessarily make it any easier. How do you know which cosmetic or makeup product is right for you?

For starters, simply make peace with the fact that beauty can be costly and be prepared to fork out a pretty fortune. This is not to say you shouldn’t shop around to find the best buys and promotional offers.

Opt for cosmetics that match and complement your skin tone and type. Go for colours that enhance your natural glow and blend in with the colour of your hair, eyes and skin.

This means choosing a lighter foundation shade for fair skin and using products for your specific skin type. Educate yourself on knowing what goes into the products you are using and safeguard the health of your skin to prevent any skin allergies you may be prone to.

The best way to find out which products work best for you is to “test and try”. Glossybox offers just the answer to those who delight in the thrill of trying new beauty products.

A monthly subscription of R130 to Glossybox gets you four to five trial luxury beauty products of high-end brands to review in the comfort of your own home. Order your limited edition Stuttafords Glossybox now. For more information: http://www.glossybox.co.za/

Stellar Summer Shorts

Stellar Summer Shorts

Summer’s here so it’s finally time to pack away your winter warmers and get festive. Time to show off those lovely legs and show us just what your mama gave you!

Cute shorts are the must-have this season. They can be seen on runways the world over this year and Sandton City is never far behind the latest catwalk trends. Nina Sophie was spotted by Sandton City dressed in these classic black summer shorts combined with a simple white, embellished, tribal tunic top and a pair of flat black boots. Nina decided to accesorise with a matching sling bag to close off this summer’s preppy but fun fashion favourite.

Tops

Loose tanks, particularly brightly coloured ones are best worn with dark coloured-summer shorts. One of our favourite things about this look is that with a silk or satin top it transforms from preppy but fun summer to formal and gorgeous, perfect for grabbing attention sipping sundowners.

Lightweight Jackets/Cardigans

Cardigans play the ensemble down, transforming the look from formal to classy. An elongated dark-coloured blazer gives the whole look a tailored look.

Shoes

With shorts, we recommend sandals during the day. For nocturnal fashion adventures keep your heels low and remember if you are short avoid shoes that cover your ankles, as they make you look shorter.

Wedges are wildly popular this season; we recommend nude platform wedges as they draw more attention to your shorts. For a mixed up wardrobe, Nina wore boots; not an easy look to pull off but we feel “if you’ve got it, flaunt it!”
Nina’s black shorts are elegant, which means after her shopping spree at Sandton City, she can keep them on for her sundown date at Walnut Grove and simply change her flip-flops to wedges.

Accesorise it

For that casual finish a small sling bag will do. It’s a comfortable way of carrying your day-to-day essentials. It’s not only stylish but it brings more focus to your shorts and legs.

Tips

To accentuate your waist, tuck your top in. It makes you look slimmer by directing attention to your legs. Remember that with short shorts, the idea is not to bare too much other skin. Dress up around the shorts. This season, it’s about classy, not trashy, summer fun. The lovely thing about these shorts is that they are simple and you can wear them up or down, formally, with low heels, or casually with flip-flops.

Prices and stores to buy these items

You can get an assortment of shorts at Sandton City’s Mr Price from R69.99 and tunics from R99.99. At Truworths you can get tribal tops with embellishments for R320. The Black PV Jacket is priced at R399.95 only at Edgars.

Most Wanted

There is nothing like tempting, voluptuous lips to add to your seductive appeal this winter. We pay luscious lip service to trending shades and how to get your pout just right:

High drama
Dramatic bolds and neutral nudes are the latest in lip colour styling; think a glossy deep purple for high-shine glamour. This racy colour works well with subdued and soft colouring to the cheeks and eyelids. And remember a well-defined brow, some lash darkening mascara and a tinted moisturiser to set your skin aglow for a perfect look.

Nude for effect
Prevent nude colour lips from looking washed out by keeping the rest of your makeup soft and natural. Choose a matte finish and go easy on the lip liner. Eye shadow in skin-tone matching shades of light pink, coral, beige, peach or mocha are best. Stay away from shimmery blue, purple and green. Dust your skin with a light bronzer and end off with a pink tinted blush on the cheeks for touch of radiance.

Also choose a wide variety of pink shades in matte, gloss or traditional wear while keeping your cheek colour to a minimum, skin dusted with a soft bronzer and charcoal eyes for an elegant evening look.

If it’s red lips you’re after, be sure to choose a shade and texture that best suits you. For that red carpet celebrity look, go for dramatic eyes and lightly rouged cheeks for a healthy looking glow.

We liked Rimmel’s lasting finish lipstick from the Kate Moss Collection. Choose from eight shades, all from R70. Or try Clinique’s Chubby Stick Moisture Lip Colour at R205. Both available from Edgars .
